What is the significance of that logo that looks like Che Guevara but is the image of a woman?

I saw the logo both as a bumper sticker and in the ad space down by the field at an MLS soccer game....?

It%26#039;s a sexist image that equates women with chimpanzees. You should be offended.

I am looking for some of his paintings on the net...

Has anyone got any ?

You sound like a stalker...

What questions can you ask a photographer?

I have to do a one-on-one interview for a class. I%26#039;m going to college for photography, so I have to interview someone in that field. I have to ask a minimum of 10 questions. Some can be simple, and some have to be... lets just say more than simple.
What questions can you ask a photographer?
Here are a few you might ask. Assume the photographer could be either male or female.

1)Ask about their education pertaining to photography. School, did they like it or would they recommend it. Things of that nature.

2) Brands of equipment they use and why.

3) Any unforgettable photoshoots they%26#039;ve done. Let%26#039;s face it, life doesn%26#039;t always go right and neither does photography. Possibly a threatening, scary experience (nature, wildlife photogs). Or a shoot that just went haywire. Example: Trying to get a good view of a remote waterfall I managed to get myself on a small ledge %26quot;off trail%26quot; but couldn%26#039;t manage to get back to the trail. Long story but you probably get my point).

I%26#039;m sure other photogs in here will come up with more questions you could ask.

Good luck with your interview.
What questions can you ask a photographer?
I always ask fellow photogs a few questions:

1) What was your first camera? Always a different answer from everyone, normally a good story to go along with it

2) Where do you think photography will be in 10 years?

3) How did you get your start? School? Assistant jobs? What advice could you offer to someone starting off in this field?

*I asked number three to a professional of more than 25 years, and the conversation on that question alone went on for an hour. Most photographers will relate thier mistakes, so maybe one day you wont have to make those same mistakes.

4) Where do you see your own work going in the next few years? Artistcally/technically.

5) What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Good luck

People specialized in camera's and photography answer this for me!!!?

What the **** is the difference from a 10.2 mega pixle camera from a 7.1 mega pixle and if i was to look at the best company for a 10.2 or 10.1 which one should i go with which is the best and cheapest.... please tell me!!! i need it for the summer!!!
People specialized in camera%26#039;s and photography answer this for me!!!?
The megapixel thing is a lot of hype. It is not the end all answer to digital photo quality. Here is some interesting reading: (and by the way, I did not have to read this article first to know this, it just lays it out better than I can explain it).

http://kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm

The Nikon D40 kit DSLR is a great camera. 6mp but will likely do all you need, especially just starting out. The D40x has 10mp I believe.

The Canon Rebel digital SLRs are also in the 8 - 10mp range, but cost more than the Nikon.

steve
People specialized in camera%26#039;s and photography answer this for me!!!?
%26quot;Steve P%26quot; is right, but to answer your question about the difference, the more megapixels, the more detail can be captured.

For images to be displayed on the web, or, even in smaller, prints, it does not matter so much since not much detail can be seen in images this size. The, theoretical, pixels of a seven megapixel image are too small to see, so, you%26#039;d not be able to see the difference between this and a ten meg image on a five by seven inch print.

However, if the image is blown up to a twenty by thirty inch poster, the image with fewer pixels would more easy show each one, since the pixels will be larger than in the same size image with more pixels. And, this may only be true depending on the quality of the printer. If printed on an inkjet plotter, the resolution on those is so, relatively, poor, that the differences may STILL not be all that apparent.

So, unless you plan to blow most of your images up to these larger sizes, the money you may spend to find a camera with a higher meg rating may be wasted.
Reply:an easy way to think about megapixels is the larger the mp rating the larger you can print without distortion. as you expand images they start to distort. this is why some images may look pixelated (all the little noticeable blocks). in film this is called grain. you can only stretch an image so much before it starts to distort. generally speaking it%26#039;s about 1.5 times the original.

as far as buying advice i%26#039;d go for the canon rebel xt (NOT the xti). the xt is an 8mp digital slr. it takes great images and will print out much larger than you will probably need. you can pick the up at b%26amp;h photovideo for about $450 and it comes with a 18-55mm zoom lens.

In what sense is photography a record?

See something... Take a picture... There%26#039;s your record.

How did Rauschenberg become interested in art?

Rauschenberg had a tendency to pick up the trash that interested him on the streets of New York City and bringing it back to his studio to use it in his works. He claimed he %26quot;wanted something other than what I could make myself and I wanted to use the surprise and the collectiveness and the generosity of finding surprises. And if it wasn%26#039;t a surprise at first, by the time I got through with it, it was. So the object itself was changed by its context and therefore it became a new thing.%26quot;[3]

ps. Fascinating video....
Reply:Polo gave you a good usable link.

there ought to be classes offered by any art school also...

i worked with an old guy that came from london and was quite adept at marblizing...taught me a few tricks to it.
Reply:Great video!

I think the course suggested above deals with painted marbling (faux marbres) where someone reproduces marbling effect in paint.

The marbling courses you%26#039;re looking for (where oil / ink spreads on water) will be, more likely, connected to book-binding courses (marbling is used for the end papers).

Links below are for privately run courses out of London.

In London, looks like London College of Communication is your best bet (formerly London School of Printing) or City Lit, but you should be able to find some near you run by local authorities.

Look at Hot Courses link below or in your local library.

My friend draws but she thinks her drawings stink how do i help?
I%26#039;d have to see the drawings to confirm if they actually stink or not. But if she%26#039;s not happy, and possibly whining, she may just want to draw attention to them. She may be more confident about her drawings than you think, then again I don%26#039;t know her. Nonetheless, if you%26#039;re afraid of hurting her feelings if they really ARE bad, just tell her what she needs to improve upon, and point out the good parts to the picture. Tell her what she%26#039;s good at, but never stop emphasizing that she needs to practice to be a good artist.

~If you think that her drawings are good encurage her to keep going. Also tell her how much you like her drawings and doesn%26#039;t stink.~

leave the henna on for longer if possible.

What are the %26quot;rules%26quot; for using other peoples art in these fan vids/slides for YouTube, etc. You certainly have to credit them for their work by supplying their name, info, link, etc... but should I also put off any sort of project until I receive written/emailed permission first?
Using other peoples art... how to do it, if it%26#039;s okay???
i%26#039;m hoping to do a series honoring a known sculptor, and i%26#039;ll show him, working on one of his works, and then show some of his works...this will be done by permission...see, it is important to get permission from the artist or the artist%26#039;s estate.

The Last Supper??

Does anyone know the following questions?鈥︹€?.

-Who influenced da Vinci to make this painting?

-Who did he work with friends/ contemporaries?

-what was his earlier work?

-how did he developed his unique style like how does his panting the last supper represent that?

-What do dey say of his painting now a days?

-Was he a success in their lifetime?
The Last Supper??
- Biblical Depictions were the bases of the Renaissance era, He is also not the only one to depict the Last supper considering it is in the bible.

-He worked on the painting by himself- much of his well known paintings are not large in size.

-His earlier works consist of biblical scenes- %26quot;annunciations%26quot; so to speak, considerably smaller than his latter works.

-Leonardo was a self-learner, like most artists and doctors at that time, to really get the anatomy--there were gatherings late at night, full of doctors and artists over dead bodies to disect and gain knowledge of the human form. He also was ardent observer of life, if you%26#039;ve ever read a reproduction of his notebooks you will see his detailed comments about landscapes, values, and painting principles.

Leonardo is the most well-known painter and intellect in history, he first introduced the idea of flight, and it is said he also had schematics on an %26#039;elevator%26#039; contraction.

there is just too much on him, you cannot be too detailed
The Last Supper??
1)Da Vinci was influenced to do this work because he was commissioned.

2)Artists around his time include Michaelangelo and Raphael.

3) An example of earlier works include %26quot;Annunciation%26quot; 1475.

4) An unique style could be the balance and harmony he includes in his work by usuing basic lines and a foreground, midground and background. We also look as if we are %26quot;within the work%26quot; which is evident in the last supper.

5) Today, they say that this painting is controversial. Some believe that Da Vinci included secrets within the work, such as %26#039;the character next to Jesus is actually Mary Magdaline, and that Jesus loved her more than the other diciples%26quot;. look up %26quot;Dan Brown%26quot; who wrote %26quot;the da Vinci Code%26quot; Others believe it is a beautiful and religious work.

6) I believe he was a success because he was commissioned to make many works for important and weathly people. If in any doubt, visit this website.

Hello kitty images?
~Like the person above said they are copyrighted, but it also depends on what you plan to use it for. If you want to make a profit of it you can get in trouble, but if you just want it as an avatar or something like that then there is no problem. By the way that picture was probably made by an amateur artist so they probably have the original.~

Do I take good photos??

I really enjoy photography. My pictures focus primarily on nature and animals. I use a Nikon CoolPix L14 digital camera and I am 14 years old. Here are some of my favorite photos I have taken: LOOK AT BOTH PAGES!! THERE ARE TWO! :D

I haven%26#039;t been to many extravagant places in which I can take amazing pictures, but what I shoot from home is good I think. Thanks again.
Do I take good photos??
The last 4 were stunning!!!!!

But I think you need some work on the aim.

But besides that those pics were awesome!!!

I wish I could buy them and frame them!
Do I take good photos??
well you seem very passionate about photography and that is the first thing you need to become a good photographer...

The photos aren%26#039;t that great to be honest... Yes they are nice, but nothing that stands out or makes you stop to look at them twice.

I%26#039;d recommend focusing more on the horses and less on the cat. Try to find unusual things to photograph and try to stray away from the cliche%26#039;s like cats, piano keys and house pets.

Also, I think your photos would really benefit from editing.
Reply:I don%26#039;t really like the ones you did with the animals too much. They seem too much like a small child did them...not so much like they have an artistic flair to it like I think you were trying (too hard) to do. BUT the ones of the flowers and the streams were pretty good. Keep working at it and I think you%26#039;ll end up pretty good :-)
Reply:I really love photography too.

they%26#039;re pretty I really like the cat looking in the window :)

you have a future

good luck with your photography
Reply:Alot of your photographs seem to be taken from the exact same distance. That is the right approach in some of the pictures (the close-up on the simple keyboard keys or the leaf in the road, for example) but crunch framing animals is usually never a good idea.

A good rule of thumb is that the object being photographed and emphasized in frame should be either completely in frame or predominantely in frame, with only a portion being cropped. For example, if you were to take a picture of your baby brother, you wouldn%26#039;t frame his face to that the upper right and left portions of the frame were cutting off the contour of his head, you would pull the frame back and crop him off at the neck or lower, since your main emphasis (his expression) and the surrounding features of it, would be kept in frame.

Your picture of your cat sitting under a stool is a good example of cutting off something unnecessarily. The cat%26#039;s expression is good, and so is the way the environment creates an artificial box within the frame, but since the cat is a small enough animal as it is, cutting him/her off above the feet undercuts the affect. What it does is make the viewer mentally recreate what the cat is standing on, where his feet are, thus pulling attention away from the focus of the picture: that human expression of %26#039;what am I doing here and what is that thing?%26quot;

A better example of frame cropping is the picture of your cat staring out the window. Because the presence of shade on either side of the cat creates an artificial curtain, emphasizing the slice of light squarely running down the center of the picture, which is where the cat%26#039;s attention is poised in the picture, the fact that its only a 3/4 picture of the cat doesn%26#039;t affect it because the picture directs the viewer to the main point of focus and intent. The viewer doesn%26#039;t need to see the entire cat because the viewer intuitively understands that what is important is already framed by the use of shade and light. In addition, because the picture is about anticipation (the cat%26#039;s attention being directed towards something outside the frame creates a similar tension within the viewer%26#039;s own seeing) the lack of fully formed shapes coincides with the metaphoric %26#039;incomplete%26#039; anticipation of the reader%26#039;s attention: what is he/she looking at? just as the cat%26#039;s attention is focused, so too is the viewer%26#039;s by the arrangement, which means anything else visually is unecessary.

Pictures aren%26#039;t just pictures, they are stories, reasons, explanations. What you leave in the frame, and what you leave out, is of primary importance to what it is you want the viewer to take with them. A good picture leaves the viewer asking questions about the content, not wondering about how different the picture would look if the photographer had moved back a few paces. Everything the viewer needs to know should always and forever be captured in that little box. Concentrate on what is in frame, and what you want to be in frame, and build from there.
Reply:Most of them are OK.

The ones i really like are:2nd one on the first page. The 2nd, 4th, and 5th on last page.

For Father%26#039;s Day, I am designing a T-shirt. What kind of logo should it be in the front?
you could go retro, with the old clip-art image of the dad with his pipe sitting in an easy chair with his feet up reading a newspaper...(that image is out there, and probably free so you won%26#039;t have to steal it)

Looking for a tutorial for how to use screen printing to make tshirts.?

i looked up an older article but it wasn%26#039;t found, i want to make tshirts on a 4 color press or something similar so if somebody could find a place for me to read and learn that would be 5 points.
Looking for a tutorial for how to use screen printing to make tshirts.?
have you tried dharma trading co? they are online and have lots of instructions. I believe they have screenprinting kits. they have very good quality products.

Also, have you heard of a gocco? you can buy them imported from japan and I know you can print small images in multiple colors on fabric. you can also use paper with them.

Hope that helps!

Does art increase in value after the artist passes away?

I have several works of art and I am thinking about selling them. However, the artists, Anuszkiewicz and Stanczak, are very old (78 and 80) and I was wondering if I should wait for the artists to die before I sell the art.
Does art increase in value after the artist passes away?
if the artists are well known in your area.. then yes the value will increase.. if not.. no it wont.
Does art increase in value after the artist passes away?
Supply and demand...dead painters cannot create new works, so the value of the existing works increases postmortum...Providing there was/is a demand for the work antemortum.
Reply:The actual answer is...sometimes it does, most of the time it doesn%26#039;t. In the last 50 or so years, when it did increase in value after the death of the artist it was simply because the artist was already famous and clearly no new work would be created. If the artist was NOT already famous before he died, his death will no longer have any effect on the value of the work.

In the case of the two you mentioned, one of them (Anuszkiewicz) is already fairly well known, but his recent works have never achieved major prices in the primary or secondary markets. There may be a small %26quot;blip%26quot; in the perceived value of his work after he passes, but it%26#039;s unlikely to be much. Stanczak is NOT well-known enough for there to be any effect in his prices whatsoever.

In my recommendation, sell it now while the market is strong and gain interest on your money instead of waiting for him to pass away in the hopes that it MIGHT increase in value somewhat.
Reply:yes it does

Reply:Artists works go up in value, especially after they die. You look at Picasso. He was creating works during a time when painting was a job to earn little wages from people, to survive another week with shelter and food. Today, his works are worth between thousands-millions, even though he is dead. The reason they go up in value, is because they are unique, and that artist wont be able to reproduce anymore of its kind and other works. Monet was the same, he made so many beautiful works, and during his time, they weren;t worth as much, but today they are worth soooo much more, and lucky for his decendants, they saw ALOT of his money. Also, when you look at the perspective of the past, money such as sooo many thousands, and especially millions didnt exist. So of course those artists works couldnt sell for much because that amount of money wasnt around. Also, at auction, it depends weather there is a demand of those sort of artworks. So its best to find a place to sell it, where there is a lot of interests in those artists that you;ve mentioned.

How to draw a manga of a teen transforming into a car, jacket, or chair?

I am drawing a manga for a friend of mine and need to draw a transformation sequence for the story. Its a story similer to Harry Potter about a school of wizards. He wants me to draw a picture of a boy being transformed or morphed into a chair and another boy transforming into a jacket (I think a sports jacket).

He wants them for the cover of the piece so I need to do a really detailed shapeshifting sequence. I have done werewolf pieces and another with a tiger but I have never done one of inanimate objects.

I am thinking of doing it in the style of those Animorph covers (like this image http://www.davidmattingly.com/Media/No_M... ).

But I don%26#039;t know how to draw a person transforming a chair or jacket. If I draw a chair I guess his head could be the chair rest and limbs the chair legs, but turning into a jacket is more difficult, where would his head and legs go.

If you have any ideas for drawing this piece please tell. Also paste links of similer images.

wow this is very interesting. same as you i have never drawn someone changing into an inanimate objects.

well I will try to help as much as I can.

I def. like your idea using the animorphs covers [ oh and ur link wasnt working- or maybe that was just my computer]

I am def thinking for the jacket. you could do a sequence of him starting out by standing-then bending down into a squat- then his arms and legs kind of connecting in that position while he pushes his legs towards his chest- his head could tilt his head some [ oooo i know if you his skin was brown and his hair was black. u could make the jacket brown and the collar black like for his head][and maybe if u wanted a freaky design you could do like a pic of an eye on like a pocket or. s.o.] umm probably work on the details of that. and then in the end it could just like a jacket thrown on the floor.

or if you figure out how to do the transformations of someone into a chair.

on the cover you could def. have 2 transformations of 2 dif people. then have there transformations combine in the end by having the jacket thrown over the chair.

well idk how you would do the chair.

but hopethis helps :)

Fabricated steel sculpture?

Hi all, I need some ideas for a project in fabricated steel sculpture that involves welding steel and making a sculpture by using mix media.
Fabricated steel sculpture?
I would suggest welding some steel, and then mixing up some media and combining it. If this is for an art class you probably ought to develop some kind of personal connection to your work.
Fabricated steel sculpture?
How about taking some flat sheet steel (16 or 18 gauge) about 18 x 24 inches (or any size), welding other steel objects to it in a design (or pattern) of your own and painting the objects with acrylic or enamel paint? The artwork could be a wall-mounted piece or put on a pedestal.

Can the filters from FILM SLR cameras be used for digital cameras?

I have many old but pristine filters for a 35mm slr camera. They range from ordinary haze filter, to very expensive special effects filters. Can these be used on the new digital SLR cameras ? I have yet to switch as I have too much $ tied up in lenses %26amp; so on that can not be used from old to new. I plan sometime soon to buy a really good digital SLR and will keep them if they will work. Also what kind of lens is best for shoot interior shots of rooms that shows the small rooms the best?

Thanks
Can the filters from FILM SLR cameras be used for digital cameras?
As long as they fit on the end of the lens, they should work fine.
Can the filters from FILM SLR cameras be used for digital cameras?
Yes they work exactly the same whether the image is recorded by chemical or digital means.
Reply:Yes to the first part, as long as the thread size is sI%26#039;milar.

For the second part, im assuming you want to photograph interiors. i would recommend a wide angle lens. Nothing like 12mm something around 17-20mm will take a good photograph without a lot of distortion. In all honesty though if you want the best, you need a tilt shift lens, as you can control the amount of distortion. Those run around $2000 for the decent ones.

But if you re not doing it professionally, get a wide angle and you%26#039;ll be just fine.
Reply:Generally speaking the answer is yes. The only thing is that on the smaller sensor DSLR you will need to use a circular polarizer instead.

As to whether the lenses you own will fit on a new DSLR camera. They should as long as the camera company has not changed the mount. You don%26#039;t say what kind of camera you have but basically all Nikon lenses from 1959 on will work.

For Canon all EOS mount lenses will work. The FD mount was discontinued in 1987 and all cameras made since then use the EOS mount.

Pretty much all Pentax lenses will fit on the current Pentax digital SLR%26#039;s.

All Minolta lenses will fit on the Sony cameras.

I%26#039;m not sure on Olympus but they will probably work as well. The only difference is that most of the DSLR%26#039;s use a sensor that is smaller than 35mm film so there is a crop factor that you need to add to the focal legth of your lens. For most this 1.5 or 1.6. So a 100mm lens would perform as a 150-160mm lens. This will depend on the camera company.

A good lens for shooting indoor rooms would be a wide angle. The exact focal length will depend on the size of the rooms so a wide angle zoom would be good to use.
Reply:With a DSLR the only filters you really need are a Haze/UV filter to protect the front element and a circular polarizer. The effects of colored filters (red, green, yellow, etc.) can be duplicated in Photoshop. Since you can set the white balance on a DSLR for different light sources (fluorescent, tungsten) you no longer need correction filters.

Now about film camera lenses and DSLR compatibility.

Pentax is still using the K-mount introduced in 1975 so any K-mount lens will mount to the Pentax K200D or K20D or their predecessors. There are limitations when using the older manual focus lenses but at least you can use them.

Canon changed their lens mount fron the FD to the EOS type when they introduced their auto focus EOS Rebel. So if you have a collection of Canon FD mount lenses they are of no use with a Canon DSLR. There may be an adapter but you%26#039;ll have to look for it.

Nikon kept their lens mount compatibility when they went to auto focus and then to the DSLR line.

Minolta changed their lens mount from the MC/MD bayonet mount in 1985 when they introduced the auto focus Maxxum 7000 with the A-mount. Since Sony bought the DSLR technology from Konica-Minolta they kept the A-mount. If you have a collection of Minolta A-mount lenses they will work on the Sony A100/200/300/350/700. If your lenses are MC/MD mount they are of no use unless you can find an adapter.

Since Olympus DSLR cameras use the 4/3 mount you will need the Olympus MF-1 OM (OM to 4/3 adapter) to use the older Olympus lenses on the Olympus DSLR cameras. This adapter only works with the following cameras: E-520,510, 500, 420, 410, 330, 300, E-3 %26amp; E-1.

What's the difference between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture?

ISO and shutter speed seem to be the same thing: they have to do with light entering the lens... and what%26#039;s aperture? any good websites that i can learn from?
What%26#039;s the difference between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture?
ISO refers to the sensitivity of the film to light. Each film will need a certain amount of light to give proper exposure. The ISO is used to determine shutter speed and aperature settings.

Shutter speed is a measure of how long the shutter is open. It is measured in fractions of a second. Aperature is a measure of how large the opening is in the shutter. You read it as f stop. The larger the number, the smaller the opening.

Together f stop and shutter speed are set to get the correct amount of light. A number of f-stop shutter speed combinations are possible. The combination you choose would be determined by the need to stop movement or not, and the depth of field needed (how much you need focused clearly)
What%26#039;s the difference between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture?
ISO refers to how sensitive the film or digital camera is to light.

Shutter speed refers to how long the film or sensor is exposed to the image.

Aperture refers to the optical setting that allows the lens area to be reduced to control the intensity of the light striking the film or sensor.

Any time one is changed changing either of the other 2 could be used to compensate. When a combination of the 3 is appropriate for the lighting of the subject that is called proper exposure.
Reply:You have it quite wrong. ISO is a measure of the film%26#039;s (or CCD%26#039;s) light sensitivity. Think of it as a measure of how many photons must land on the film/sensor to form an image.

Shutter speed is just that, a measure of how long the shutter is open in front of the film/ccd. This is a sort of valve that only allows so many photons of light through the lens.

Aperture is a kind of measure of how large the %26quot;valve%26quot; is that lets the photons through the shutter. A small valve (high aperture f number) will restrict the flow of photons requiring a longer shutter duration to allow enough photons to reach the film/ccd to form an image.

Normally one would want to use as large an aperture as possible to achieve the shortest exposure time. This leads to problems though due to the optical properties of lenses. large aperture lenses (low f number) have a small depth of focus, that is, only a short distance in front of the lens is actually in focus. If you want all of the scene to be in focus, one normally chooses a high aperture number, thus requiring a longer exposure or a switch to a faster (higher ISO) film or ccd sensor.

Astrobuf
Reply:Well let me see if I can help explain this to you.

ISO: Is a measurement of the sensitivity to light of the film or sensor. The higher the number the more sensitive to light the film or sensor is. The downside is that you will get more noise or grain the higher the ISO you use.

Shutter Speed: The shutter speed is how fast the shutter of the camera opens and closes. The slower the shutter speed the more light is allowed in to expose the film or sensor. If you want to freeze action you need a fast shutter speed of around 1/250th of a second or faster.

Aperture: The aperture is in the lens. There is a diaphram in the lens that opens up wide or closes down to a very small hole. Much like the Iris in your eye. The aperture does two things.

1. It controls the amount of light that passes through the lens to the film or sensor. The larger the aperture on your lens the faster the shutter speed you can use. This is especially useful in low light situations.

2. It controls the depth of field. Depth of field is the amount of the photograph that is in clear focus. For portraits or macro shots you generally will have a very shallow DOF. Where the person is in focus and the background is blurred. For a landscape you want the opposite. You want the entire photograph in focus. To control the DOF you adjust the aperture. Large aperture (small number) like F1.4 or 2.8 will give you a shallow depth of field. The larger the number the deeper your depth of field.

I hope this helps.
Reply:In digital cameras, ISO is the sensitivity of the camera to light. A higher ISO means you need less light to get a proper exposure, however that may come with a cost in quality, depending on the camera.

The shutter opens and closes when you take a picture. The quicker it opens and closes, the less light passes through the lens. A quick shutter speed, like 1/500 of a second, allows a tiny amount of light in. A slow shutter speed, like 1/30, allows a relatively large amount of light.

The size of the opening in the shutter is the aperture. Small apertures (think of them as small holes, though that is it how it used to be, not how it is now) let in a little light. A small aperture would be say F16. Large apertures allow a lot of light in. A large aperture would be F2.8.

All three of these affect the exposure. If you set you camera to ISO 100 and aperture priority, you notice as you increase the aperture (which means the hole is smaller so less light comes in), the shutter speed gets slower, which means that more light is coming in. Increasing the aperture by one stop decrease the shutter speed by one stop.

You can see then how these two are directly related. Every stop is doubling or halving the amount of light. If half as much light is coming due to a one stop change in Aperture, twice as much light needs to come in due to a slower shutter speed in order maintain the same exposure.

I know that is a lot and confusing. Try this link in wikipedia that talks about exposure

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_%2...
Reply:After all the technical explanations by the others which some of them are good, let me explain more in layman%26#039;s term.

ISO, shutter speed, and aperture all has to do on how much you are letting the light in to expose a film or sensor.

ISO - the brighter the environment the lower the number

ISO of 200 in a bright sunny day or even 100. 400 when it get a little bit darker around dawn or higher at night. For fast images like sports you can use 400 or higher to help freeze the images. However, the higher the ISO 400 and up the grainier it gets or in digital term it%26#039;s called %26quot;noise%26quot; not the sound but the look. Here%26#039;s a site to explain it more and samples:

http://www.cameratown.com/guides/iso.cfm

Shutter speed - refer how fast or slower the shutter open and close to let lights in the camera. Ideally 125 or higher is good for freezing images or even %26quot;prevent%26quot; blurs from shaky hands. Here%26#039;s a website for more explanation and sample:

http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Camera...

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fot...

Aperture: if the opening of your lens inside - like the iris of our eyes, it gets smaller when it%26#039;s brighter and bigger when it%26#039;s darker, same principle. Aperture also will determine your Depth of Field - how blurry or clearly your background could be. Here%26#039;s a site about aperture:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fot...
Reply:http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.htm

Heres a good website.

As stated by others the ISO is the sensitivity of the film. The numbers, if you%26#039;ll notice, will double and halve from the previous number (50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, etc...). When you halve or double the ISO you move one full stop (see my link for a more consice explination).

Shutter speeds are obviuosly the speed that the shutter opens and closes. You will see that a full stop will be either double or half of its previous stop. The link I gave only deals in full stops but many cameras will let you select half or third stops (seemingly only to confuse someone who%26#039;s just trying to figure this stuff out).

Now aperture is a little different. It doesnt jump by doubling the number. It has its own scale. It would be good for a beginner to learn the apertures. f/1.4, 2.0, 2.8, 4.0, 5.6, 8.0, 11, 16, 22, 32. Once you learn them you can use them. When refrencing lenses some will call a lens a %26quot;fast%26quot; lens. This has nothing to do with how fast the lens reacts to the camera, its more about how fast the lens lets the camera shoot. A f/2.8 lens is considered fast, anything with a lower number is faster, anything with a larger number is slower. Lenses that state that they go from one number to another mean that at the wide end of the zoom they are this fast, and at the tele end of the zoom they are this fast (a stop or so %26quot;slower%26quot;).

With the advent of the digital camera you can now more actively control the ISO. With film you had to change the roll and that wasnt convenient, now you just push a few buttons.
Reply:ISO is a measurement of the sensitivity to light of a light sensitive surface, whether film or digital sensor. The lower the number the less sensitive; the higher the number the more sensitive.

Inside the lens there is a diaphragm which is made up of thin movable blades which can be opened or closed to form the aperture or f-stop. The smaller the number the bigger the opening. So f1.2 would be very large and f22 would be very small. The aperture controls how much light is admitted so f1.2 would admitt all the available light and f22 would admit very little.

The shutter speed controls how long the light is allowed to expose the light sensitive surface. It is controlled by both the ISO used and the f-stop chosen. The shutter speed also has a role in stopping action. The faster the shutter speed the more likely that a runner or moving car will be %26quot;frozen%26quot; with no apparent blur.

Here is a hypothetical example to show the ISO-aperture-shutter speed relationship. For our purposes we%26#039;ll be shooting on a clear, sunny day*.

ISO 100

f2 @ 1/8000

f2.8 @ 1/4000

f4 @ 1/2000

f5.6 @ 1/1000

f8 @ 1/500

f11 @ 1/250

f16 @ 1/125

ISO 200

f2 @ 1/16000

f2.8 @ 1/8000

f4 @ 1/4000

f5.6 @ 1/2000

f8 @ 1/1000

f11 @ 1/500

f16 @ 1/250

As you can easily see, our shutter speed decreases as less light is admitted by the smaller f-stops. f2.8 admits 1/2 as much light as f2; f4 admits 1/2 as much light as f2.8, etc. Since less light is admitted our shutter has to stay open longer to allow the light to expose our film or sensor.

* This example is based on the time-honored %26quot;Sunny 16 Rule%26quot; which states: %26quot;On a sunny day, set your f-stop to f16 and your shutter speed to 1/ISO.%26quot; So if you%26#039;re using ISO 100 your shutter speed at f16 is 1/125. It was created back when shutters were mechanical. Today%26#039;s electronically controlled shutters are, in effect, %26quot;stepless%26quot; and can actually achieve a shutter speed of 1/100 or 1/200 when needed.
